K’Chitwa Kwe/Oshkaabewis – Cultural Services
Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking individuals to fill the position of Cultural Services – K’Chitwa Kwe/Oshkaabewis. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s G’Chi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure that services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices.
The K’Chitwa Kwe and Shkaabewis are vital roles within the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Community, Child and Family Services program; and will be responsible for working directly with the Knowledge Keepers and Team Lead to provide Cultural Services through direct and indirect cultural services to children, youth and families. In addition, direct and in direct cultural services will also be provided with staff and membership of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Participate in monthly supervision with the Cultural Services Team Lead/Supervisor
· In collaboration with the Team Leader for Cultural Services and Knowledge Keepers develop and maintain a list of cultural people, resources, and Elders available to the program.
· In collaboration with Knowledge Keepers/Elder provide training to staff about cultural practices, teachings and ceremonies.
· Facilitate the integration of cultural practices and traditions into daily activities and program initiatives.
· Provide services to children, youth and families and community
· Provide support to Knowledge Keepers and Team Lead
REQUIREMENTS
· Have an intimate understanding of the lived experience of Anishinaabe people
· Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, teachings and protocols
· Experience working with First Nation’s people, organizations and communities.
· Thorough understanding of confidentiality and the Child and Family Services Act
· Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset.
· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Salary: $59,916.00 Location: In-Office Wiikwemkoong
