Our community mourns the loss of Dwayne Animikwan, a remarkable and valued member of the Wiikwemkoong Communications family and he played an integral role in bringing together the three Communications offices across Wiikwemkoong—the WUT Communications team, the Wiikwemkoong Health Centre (WHC) Communications office, and the WBE Communications office. Dwayne was the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education (WBE) Communications officer.
During his years with us, his efforts strengthened collaboration, created consistency, amplified creativity, and helped to ensure our community received timely, unified messaging when it mattered most.
Dwayne’s contributions were instrumental and pivotal during the COVID-19 pandemic, when clear and compassionate communication was essential. He worked tirelessly to ensure our members stayed informed, connected, and supported through one of the most challenging times.
Dwayne is well-known for his voice and for capturing the attention of many listeners on the radio over the years. He had a knack for graphic design and videography, and his professionalism and charisma brought partnerships and collaborations to Wiikwemkoong. His legacy lives on in the projects he helped shape and the relationships he built across our community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dwayne will be remembered by his colleagues and friends for his generosity of spirit, his kindness, and his ability to connect with people. Dwayne was immensely proud of his community and spoke so highly of his family, especially his loving wife Brenda, his son Mason, and his friends and colleagues.
On behalf of our team, and WUT Communications Family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dwayne’s family, friends, and the many colleagues who had the privilege of working alongside him. We honour his memory with gratitude for the time we shared, the impact he made, and the legacy our team will continue to carry.
Miigwech, Dwayne. You will be deeply missed.
