Community Support Worker

 

Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking (2) qualified individual to fill the positions of Community Support Workers. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s Gchi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure the services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The Community Support Workers will report directly to the Supervisor of Prevention Services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide direct, culturally responsive support and advocacy to children, youth, and families involved in or at risk of child welfare involvement.

· Deliver prevention, early-intervention, and family-preservation services using trauma-informed and strength-based approaches.

· Receive referrals, conduct intake and assessments, and develop appropriate service plans with families identifying their needs and next steps.

· Facilitate individual, group, and community-based prevention programming and workshops that promote child, youth and family well-being.

· Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, and referrals to internal and external supports.

· Collaborate with supervisors, community partners, Elders, and service providers to ensure coordinated care.

· Maintain accurate, confidential case records and prepare required reports using case management systems.

· Participate in data review, program planning, and continuous quality improvement activities.

· Build strong relationships in the community while respecting and incorporating Anishinaabe culture, values, and traditions into daily work.

 

REQUIREMENTS

· Post-secondary education in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Experience working with Indigenous children, youth, and families, preferably in child welfare, prevention, or family support.

· Knowledge of child welfare legislation, policies, and best practices in a community-based context.

· Understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, values, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

· Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with families, Elders, community members, and multidisciplinary teams.

· Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle, and ability to work flexible hours.

· Clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

 

Salary: $83,851.00 Location: In-Office Wiikwemkoong
