Governance Unit Administrative Assistant
The Governance Unit Administrative Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory Governance Unit. The Governance Unit supports governance planning, law and policy development, committee operations, reporting, and intergovernmental relations. The Administrative Assistant will report to the Governance Unit Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinate and organize the Governance Unit to ensure efficient and effective practices for document preparation, filing, and retrieval.
• Establish, maintain, and regularly update files, records, and other governance documents.
• Support research and gather information related to laws, policies, plans, and strategies, including the development of new governance frameworks.
• Maintain a working knowledge of local and First Nation governance matters, as well as applicable Provincial and Federal legislation.
• Assist in the preparation of summary reports, quarterly reports, proposals, and other governance-related documentation.
• Provide administrative support in organizing and coordinating Governance Committee meetings.
• Assist in planning and coordinating community development initiatives and consultation processes.
• Attend and participate in community development activities and community consultations as required.
• Record accurate meeting minutes and maintain proper documentation.
• Manage and maintain a productive schedule aligned with the Governance Unit workplan, while adapting to urgent or last-minute priorities to ensure continuity of workflow.
REQUIREMENTS
o Minimum 1 year experience working in an office/administrative setting
o Strong interpersonal, communication, written, and organizational skills
o Experience in using computers, and software such as Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook
o Must be able to work independently and as a team player
o Familiarity with WUT Governance, or a willingness to learn
o Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, and current issues
o Ability to speak and understand Anishnaabemowin, or have a willingness to learn
